There is an overwhelming amount of accessories for videographers in 2023, and deciding which ones you need to invest your hard earned money into isn’t an easy decision. So to help all the beginners out, here’s 3 accessories that, we swear by at our production company, are essential in all our video projects.
Portable Lighting
You can go as little or as large as you want with this accessory. Having portable lighting that you can bring with you on shoots will give you the opportunity to add more ambiance to a scene if you want it. Simple lighting such as light tubes and small continuous lights are all you need to take a scene from dark and boring, to bright and cinematic in a heartbeat.
A Neutral Density Filter
In a nutshell, these are sunglasses for your camera lens. They allow you to reduce the amount of light being let into the camera’s sensor, without adjusting any of your setting in camera. This means you can maintain your shutter speed and aperture where you want it, and then darken/lighten your frame by adjusting the ND filter. These are super helpful when you want to use an open aperture such as f/2.8 but have way too much light available. Now you can have super blurry backgrounds, and a well exposed video.
External Hard-drives
When you’re just starting out in videography, these might not seem that important. But investing in a 2TB+ SSD early is going to give you the flexibility to organise your files before it’s too late. Because with every new video project you take on, you’re going to need somewhere to store the files, and rather than taking up all your internal computer space, do yourself a favour and back it up onto one of these things.
There are more accessories that we use on a daily basis, so if you want to hear all about them drop us an email to info@pinboardmedia.co.uk and we’ll let you know all about them.
